Brexton decided to make his entrance into this world 5 weeks early!  Needless to say mom and dad were very surprised and not quite ready, but decided he's worth keeping!!  We love him to pieces already and have only held him a brief time!
Overall, Brexton's health is good!  His main concern is his lungs.  He was put on oxygen through his nose as soon as he arrived in the NICU.  Throughout the first night, they needed to continue to increase his oxygen level intake that then required him to be placed under a 'hood'.  The 'hood' allowed him to breathe in a higher concentrated rate of oxygen.  However, his oxygen continued to be unstable.  Sunday evening, we met with the doctor and made the decision to intibate him, where a medicine would be injected into his lungs to help mature them at a quicker rate, and then he was placed on the ventilator.  Brexton remained quiet and relaxed through the night and all day Monday while on the ventilator.  The doctor said that was normal as he had been working so hard to breath before.  His numbers remained steady throughout the day!  The doctor was hoping he would wake up and be more active otherwise an MRI was going to be ordered for the next morning to make sure there was no bleeding in his brain.  God answered our prayers and he woke up around 11 Monday night and had a very active night.  The doctor was encouraged when he made his rounds Tuesday morning.  The goal for Brexton throughout the day on Tuesday was for his blood gas numbers to continue to increase as they turned down the ventilator settings in hopes of him breathing on his own by the end of the day!  Once again God answered prayers and the vent was removed about 7 pm on Tuesday night!!  Brexton is such a champ!  His day nurse yesterday gave him the nickname tough guy!

What a roller coaster ride the last couple days have been!  I was released on Monday night.  Kory and I have stayed at home the past two nights and come down to the hospital first thing the mornings when the doctor is making his rounds and stay well into the evening/night!  We are doing our best to keep everyone updated on Brexton's progress.  I hope to update this blog daily to keep everyone up to speed on him!  Please know that we appreciate all of your thoughts, gifts, generosity to stay in your home or to bring us food, but most of all your prayers!!!  Brexton's journey is a testimony to the power of prayer!!  We praise God for this new life he has entrusted us with and for all of our family and friends who care so much!  We love you all!!
